increasing food and water insecurity
- less food produced where there is less rainfall and desertification eg in the Sahel and parts of Asia. Less exports would have effects globally.
- more frequent hurricanes could devastate crop yields eg hurricane Katrina caused $1billion of these losses
- productive land lost to sea level rise eg the fertile alluvial soils
these problems may be compounded by human factors like population growth and rising consumption in NICs - demand could outstrip supply and lead to food riots as more people adopt a protein rich diet
choices
global warming must be limited to less than 2 degrees above pre industrial levels to avoid irrevesible changes (a tipping point)
some people are still not taking…
