Covalent bonds

There are many different kinds of molecule in your body, and most of the atoms making up these molecules are non-metal atoms. Most non-metal compounds are held together by pairs of electrons, which form covalent bonds. The electrons used in these bonds come from the outermost electron shells of the atoms.

Covalent bonds can form between atoms of the same element. For example, in hydrogen gas two hydrogen atoms
