White Blood Cells

Phagoctosis- White blood cells engulf a pathogen, destroying it via digestion

Antitoxins- Breaks down toxins made by pathogens via sticking to it and prevent harm to the body

Antibody- Lymphocytes produce antibodies and then attach to antigens but are only specific to one

- If a pathogen mutates it can change its antigens, white blood cells cant recognize and destroy it

Traditonal drugs

- Digitalis is a heart drug made from foxgloves

- Aspirin is a painkiller made from willow

- Penicillin is an antibiotic made from fungus

Vaccination

- A dead or inactive form of a pathogen injected into patient

- Because it is weak it can make antibodies

- Antibodies are broken down, memory cells remain and know
