The foundations for the scientific study of sociology and crime. They aimed for the reduction and elimination of crime. When refering to postivism this is what we mean; methods used by the natural sciences applied to studying the social world. Knowledge is deprived from observations, and facts collected by the scientist. Facts have to be differentiated fom values.  The use of hypothetico deductive reasoning and the use of quantitative data which is more scientific. In this approach criminality is thought to be linked with something biological abnormal or defective. One famous theorist to come out of this tradition is LOMBROSO.
