  • Mining in the Arctic (in the past), now abandoned -> protected areas e.g. in Dawson City, Canada
  • Food stuffs for subsistence - caribou, seals
  • Commercial fisheries - cod

Processes e.g. nutrient cycling, soil formation

  • Arctic forests - regulate soil + conserve water
  • Arctic vegetation supports herbivore species e.g. caribou
  • Wetlands provide a summer breeding ground for 250 bird species
