Schizophrenia

Often begins in the mid 20s in men and early 30s in women. 
Some patients can completely recover from the disorder, however many need ongoing treatment with drugs to allow them to live independanty.
1% of the population has it, 15% will need help and support their whole lives amd 15% don't respond at all to treatment.

Positive symptoms;

  • Hallucinations-hearing or seeing things that do not exist,e.g. voices commenting on their behaviour.
  • Dellusions-believing something that isn't true, e.g. thinking their actions are being controlled by outside forces.
  • Thought insertion-The patient thinks the thought in their head are put there by somone else.
