  • The big moral question in the middle of the twentieth century was how the horrors of the second world war could have happened and how it could be prevented in the future.
  • the Nazis initiated a rule to exterminate 'worthless' ethnic groups
  • this led to the death of millions of Jews and this killing also extended to the homosexuals, gypsies and the mentally ill
  • in 1944, Adolf Eichmann who had been in charge of the 'final solution' reported that his unit had overseen the death of approximately four million Jews
