SMOKINGS AFFECTS ON HEALTH:

NICOTINE: 

- makes heart rate increase

- very addictive

- produces a calming sensation, "being able to cope"

- is why people like smoking

CARBON MONOXIDE:

- poisonous gas 

- takes up some of the oxygen carrying capacity is the blood

- 10% of the blood will carry carbon monoxide after smoking

- shortage of oxygen leasding to breathlessness

CARCINOGENS:

- cilia in the trachea is anaethetised allowing pathogens into the lungs

- increase risk of infections + mucus builds up causing coughing

- tar (sticky, black chemical) accumulates in the lungs turning them pink to grey

- much more likey to develop bronchitis (inflammation/ infection of the bronchi)

- can lead to a breakdown in the sructure of the alveoli causing COPD leading to sever breatlessness and eventually death
