Unit 1 Human Lifespan & Development

Infancy - Types of Play

  • Form of social development; 
  • Children create bonds and friendships through play.

Types of Play;

  • Solitary: Playing alone
  • Onlooker: Looking in before joining play, play alongside others
  • Parallel: Playing next to each other, not together
  • Associative: Playing separately but communicate with each other
  • Co-operative: Playing together, following roles and guidelines of games/activities

Solo Play, 0-1 YR; Looks at adults closely, puts things into mouth and touches things with hands. Plays alone with toys - gradually begins to play simple games e.g; peek-a-boo
