• You will have used applications software at some point in your use of computers
• Examples include word processing application software such as Microsoft Word

• Organisation need information in order to function and this information can from a variety of sources such as:
• Files in disk
• Files on removable media
• CD-ROMS's
• Databases
• The internet

Application Software

• Application software is a software that is capable of doing a specific job

• A job is called an application
• Example include word-processing software, CAD software and accounts software

General purpose software is applications software that:

• Can be used in any type of business
• Includes word-processing, spreadsheet, database, desktop publishing and presentation

Specialist software is applications software that:

• That is specific to the business
• Includes kitchen design software, software for running a garage, hairdressing booking system etc.
