Applications Software

Application software is software designed to do a particular job or application. Examples include word processing applications software such as Microsoft Word. 

Sources of information:

Organisations need information in order to function and this information can come from a variety of sources such as: 

  • Files on disks
  • Files on removable media
  • CD-ROM's 
  • Databases
  • The Internet

Applications software is software that is capable of doing a specific job (application)

General purpose and bespoke software

General purpose software is applications that can be used in any type of business and includes word processing, spreadsheet, database, desktop publishing and presentation. 

Bespoke (specialist) software is specific to the business and includes kitchen design, software for running a garage, hairdressing booking system etc...
