 Causes of Modernisation -Stalin wanted to transform industry and agricuture.

ECONOMIC REASONS:

-failure of the NEP in 27' lead to GRAIN PROCUREMENT CRISIS: 'production under NEP never exceeded pre-1914 levels'

-abolishment of the free market -

Agricultural reform was essential for rapid industrialisation, planned on making it more efficient=provide more food and release peasants to work in industry

-replace capitalism of NEP with more favourable socialist method

( FEAR OF WAR WAS ALSO A FACTOR)
