Self-Selcted Sampling
No sampling frame needed
People that are conducting the study will post an advert stating that they need participants and list the criteria that a person must meet.
The participants then come forward if they meet the requirements and want to take part.

Random Sampling
Every member of the target population is put into a hat or a computer software and is then selected at random.
Every member of the target population has an equal chance of being picked.
Every member of the target population, therefore, has to be identified.

Systematic Sampling
Every nth person is selected from the list
A list of the target population is needed in order to select the participants
4 of 7
Statified Sampling
The target population is classified into different categories e.g age, ethnicity.
Participants are then chosen from each category in the same proportions as they are in the target population.
Within each strata, the participants are then randomly selected.
The sample should represent the demographics of the population.

Quota Sampling
The target population is classified into different categories e.g age, ethnicity.
Participants are then chosen from each category in the same proportions as they are in the target population.
Participants picked by researchers- opportunity based

Snowball Sampling
This technique is used when it is difficult to access and contact the target population
The researcher uses personal contacts to find someone who is part of the target population. They then ask the person if they know anyone who fits the target population and asks to be put in contact with them.
This occurs again and again until the sample grows to meet the required sample size
