Rule Utilitarianism

RULE UTILITRAINISM-Mill came up with this theory

• subject to rules,protecting common good
• it is qualitve pleasures, higher (mental)  and lower (physical)
• it is better to be a human dissatisfied than a pig satisfied
• its better to be socrates dissatisfied than a fool satisfied 
• higher pleasures arent caluclated a person my decline pursuit of happiness (higher) for bodily pleasures, self consciences and self awarence provide standard morality
• deontogical 

Strengths:

1. overcomes difficulties of act
2. establishes overall rule by determing cause of action 

Weaknesses:

1. still allows slavery -  may be morally wrong but only minority views it as this so majorty views are protected
