Tone - the attitude of the writer towards a subject (e.g dark) does it change during the poem?

Simile- a comparision of two things using like or as (e.g the ocean was like a raging bull)

Metaphor- a comparison of two things using something is (e.g the ocean was a raging bull)

Personification- giving human attitudes to inanimate things or animals (e.g The ocean growled)

Alliteration- repeated sound of the first consonant in a series of multiple words (Peter picked a peck of pickled peppers)

Hyperbole- exaggeration or overstatement

Oxymoron- contrast in two words put together

Emjambment- running lines without using punctuations

Caesura- a pause within a poem
