Economic Facts:

• 5% of the whole worlds products made here
• 30 million people employed 
• 70% of the worlds photocopiers
• 80,000 in one factory
• Population of the area estimated at 180 million

Environmental Affects:

• 8/10 rainfalls classified as acid rain
• 3x times as much SO2 than should be produced
• 1/2 of water is untreated sewage waste
• This water is used on crops, makes them inedible
• Deforestation to make way for new factories leads to more flooding etc

Management Strategies:

• 1987 effort to reduce SO2 by 40% (failed)
• Government spending $7 billion on 30 new sewage works
• Two water treatment works in Foshan and Jiangmen to benefit conditions for 1.7 million residents living there
