JOHN SCOPES TRIAL
· John Scopes was a teacher who taught his students about evolution (which was banned by the Tennessee Anti-Evolution Law)
· The trial became known as the ‘The Monkey Trials’ as the theory of evolution was that man developed from ape-like creatures
· He was found guilty by the jury and charged but the verdict was overturned on a technicality and he was never brought back to trial
