Roles of men and Women.

Ephesians 5:22-23:--22 Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands as you do to the Lord.23 For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior.

In the christian household The husband is the head however , many christians argue that this reflects on the society at the time and it doesn't correspond with Jesus' attitudes towards women. Women were found amoung Jesus' followers (Mary Magdiline). Nowadays, most christians believe that men and women should have roles in the family.

In many protestant denominations women can now be ordaned as minister

Titus 2:3-5 —The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wineteachers of good things;  That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children [agape love, since a person can not be “taught” to have “feelings”], To be discreet, chaste, keepers [“workers” NASB] at home, good, obedient to their own husbands that the word of God be not blasphemed.

Marriage

In Christianity marriage is seen as a covenant or contract between 2 people, involving commitment and responsibility. Christianity teaches that the purpose of marraige is for 2 peopel to offer love and mutual support and for procreation. They believe that when one marries the person is bound to the other.

Mathhew 19:4-6  “Haven’t you read,” he replied, “that at the beginning the Creator ‘made them male and female,’  5 and said, ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh’?  6 So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate.”

Christianity doesn't approve of civil partnerships. The bible is against homosexual sex (Romans 1:26-27) but some argue that is because it was written against a different cultual background.  Even though many don't condemn homosexuality it isn't seen as ideal.

Devorce

mathew 19:9 I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another woman commits adultery.”  10 The disciples said to him, “If this is the situation between a husband and wife, it is better not to marry.”

The covanant of marrage can be broken by sexual immorrarity , ( commiting adulary)  Roman catholics believe that it is impossible to devorce as you are now one but... a marriage can be annulled if: Either partener did not consent ot the marriage or understand what it was about. Or the couple didn't or couldn't have sex , or one partner refused to have children.

1Corinthians 7:12 To the rest I say (I, not the Lord) that if any brother has a wife who is an unbeliever, and she consents to live with him, he should not divorce her.

Romans 7:2 For a married woman is bound by law to her husband while he lives, but if her husband dies she is released from the law of marriage.

Sexual relations .

Christians believe that the right context for sex is within marraige. Some Christians believe that marraige gives sex a special context.Sexual restraint is considered important. Promiscuity is bad in christianity.

1 Corinthians 6:18

Flee from sexual immorality. Every other sin a person commits is outside the body, but the sexually immoral person sins against his own body.

Galatians 5:19-21

Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

By saying  will not inherit the kingdom of God, Paul is stating that the wicked are not children of God, nor are they heirs of eternal life (Romans 8:17). This does not mean that anybody who has ever committed one of these sins will be denied entrance to heaven. What differentiates a Christian’s life from that of a non-Christian is the struggle against sin and the ability to overcome itA true Christian will always repent, will always eventually return to God, and will always resume the struggle against sin

Contraceptives.

Some liberal Christians feel that the availability of contraceptives makes it less important that sex is kept inside of marraige . However , it is argued that sexual frustration is a bad reason to get married as you do not value the person you are marrying but seing it as an oppotunity to have sex. Which is the purpose of marriage.

In christianity there is a range of views .

The Catholic church believes that contraception is against 'Natural law' and any use of srtificial contraception is a grave sin. they use Genisis 1:28 to agrgue that humans have an obligation to 'be fruitfull and multiply'. However many individual Roman catholics dissagree with this though, especially because of concerns about AIDS. The Roman Catholic church permits family planning - by not having sex with a women when she is fertile.

Many protestant churches are in favour of contraceptives saying that allows parents plan their family in a responsible way. Many Christians that contraception should be a questio of individual conscience.
