  • Henry's foregin policies led to war with France and Scotland proved expensive Edward had inherited debts from these wars
  • Henry had built fancy palaces adding to economic problem
  • Dissoloution of monasteries led state into role of charitable work put increased pressure on finances 
  • value of money fell exchequer putting less silver and gold into coins led to inflation
  • unemployment risen and poverty had increased population rose to 3 million poor harvets made it worse
  • because of poor harvests many moved to town pressure on goverment to employ house and feed these poeple, cloth industry in decline
  • commonwealth meant that goverment was expected to look after its people
  • rebellions looming

  • Henry had carried out huge religious change, broken with rome edward now head of church of england
  • ambiguity religious conservatives appeared outwadly protestant inwardly still holding to catholic beliefs 

FOREIGN

  • caused a diplomatic crisies with scotland and france due to warmongering
  • english reformation soured relations with all catholic countries especially spain
