—> membrane made from a phospholipid bilayer with proteins embedded

—> proteins not fixed in one place so can move laterally, ‘fluid’

Phosphate head
—> charged
—> can interact with water
—> described as hydrophilic

2x fatty acid tails
—> uncharged
—> cannot interact with water
—> described as hydrophobic

Basic structure of all membranes // 2 layers of phospholipids
—> h20 outside of cell & inside of cell cytoplasm
—> phosphates heads like the water
