Post Natal

physicle Characteristics-

  • Skin- millia, vernix, lanugo and birthmarks
  • Eyes- blue/grey
  • Fontanelle- Larg Head, tough membrane protects brain untill skull joins.
  • Weighnt-3.5kg
  • Length-50cm

Reflex-

  • Startle, rooting, blinking, sucking & swallowing and grasp.

APGAR /10

1-5mins after birth. 7-average

  • Pulse/Heartbeat
  • Brething
  • Movements
  • Skin colour
  • Refexces

Senses

  • Smell- Mothers milk
  • Taste- dislike
  • Sight- raacte to bright lights
  • Heraing-respond to sounds. mothers voice.
  • Touch- comforted skin to skni and feel pain.

After Birth-

  • APGAR

  • Body proportions
  • Hands- creases number ( Down syndrome)
  • Umbilical cord.
  • Head, weight & Length

  • Meconium- first Bowl movemnt (poo)

Further Checks then made:

  • Ears
  • Genitals
  • Hip joins
  • Eyes

7-10 Days-

  • Blood spot screening- Thyroid, cystic fybrosis and sickle cell anaemia.

Six weeks After Birth- Mum

  • Emotional State
  • Uterus back to size
  • Stiches disolved
  • Blodd preassure normal
  • Post-natal bleeding
