Animal and Plant Cells

Animal Cells contain;

Nucleus, cytoplasm, cell membrane, mitochondria, ribosomoes

Plant cells contain;

Nucleus, cytoplasm, cell membrane, mitochondria, ribosomoes, chloroplasts, permanent vacuole, cell wall

Respiration- Mitochondria

Photosynthesis - Chloroplasts

Protein synthesis - Ribosomes

Specialised Cells

Cells may be specialised to carry out a particular function.

Fat Cell - small cytoplasm, few mitochondria, can expand easily

Cone Cell - lots of mitochondria, visual pigment,

Root hair cells - large permanent vacuole, close to the xylem

Sperm cell - lots of mitochondria, long tail

Substances in and out of the body

Osmosis - the movement of water from a high concentration of water to a low concentration of water through a partially permeable membrane

Diffusion - the random net movement of particles from a high concentration of particles to a low concentration of particles

Active Transport - the movement of substances against a concentration gradient across a cell membrane using energy
