Leptospirosis is caused by a bacteria. It affects both pets and wild animals. However, animals such as rats don't develop full symptoms.

Transmission
Leptospirosis is transmitted via urine - it is often contracted through water contaminated with urine. This is a zoonotic disease, and targets the liver and kidneys.

Symptoms and Prevension
The signs of leptospirosis include high temperature or pyrexia, anorexia and severe depression. This disease can be prevented through vaccination.
