Issue Description
Reliability of diagnosis The biological model focuses on the specific symptoms of the illnesses which means that it is more
likely that different psychiatrists will make the same decision about the patient
Effective treatments The 2 main treatments are drugs and E.C.T. drugs target neurotransmitters and there is evidence
/ that they are quite effective. If the treatments work, it suggests that the explanations are valid
Reductionist As the biological model ignores other factors such as childhood and conscious thoughts, at best, it
gives a limited understanding if the mental illness in question
Conflicting evidence Identical twins do not have concordance rates of 100% for any mental illness. This means that there
must be other factors influencing the development of mental illnesses such as childhood experiences
