Non directional (2 tailed): there will be a significant difference or
correlation between 2 groups in terms of the Operationalised IV.
Directional (1 tailed): there will be a significant difference or correlation
between 2 groups in terms of the Operationalised IV and how there is a
difference or correlation (i.e. group 1 will have a higher score than group
2).
Null hypothesis: there is no significant difference or correlation between 2
groups in terms of the Operationalised IV.
Examples
2 tailed: there will be a significant positive correlation between the score
on the gratefulness questionnaire and the score on the happiness
questionnaire.
1 tailed: there will be a significant positive correlation between the score
on the gratefulness questionnaire and the score on the happiness
questionnaire. Those who scored highly on the gratefulness questionnaire
also scored highly on the happiness questionnaire.
Null: there is no significant correlation between the score on the
gratefulness questionnaire and the score on the happiness questionnaire.
