Non directional hypothesis: there will be a significant difference or
correlation between two groups in terms of the Operationalised IV
Directional hypothesis: there will be a significant difference or correlation
between the two groups in terms of the Operationalised IV and how there is
a difference (i.e. group one will have a higher score than group 2)
Null hypothesis: there is no significant difference or correlation between the two
groups in terms of the Operationalised IV
Examples
Non directional hypothesis: there will be a significant positive correlation
between the score on the gratefulness questionnaire and the score on the
happiness questionnaire
Directional hypothesis: there will be a significant positive correlation
between the score on the gratefulness questionnaire and the score on the
happiness questionnaire. Those who scored higher on the gratefulness
questionnaire also had a higher score on the happiness questionnaire
Null hypothesis: there is no significant correlation between the score on the
gratefulness questionnaire and the score on the happiness questionnaire.
