What is a miracle?
There are a number of different definitions of what
a `miracle' is:
1. an effect or extraordinary event in the physical
world that surpasses all known human or natural

as a work of god.
3. a wonder; marvel.
The philosopher F.R. Holland added to this a "lucky

philosopher David Hume claimed a miracle was any
event that "transgresses[i.e. breaks] the laws of
nature through the volition of a deity"
St Augustine (an early Christian thinker) said that
"Miracles are not contrary to Nature but to what is

Jesus calms the storm (Mark 4:35-41)
On that day, when evening came, He said
to them, "Let us go over to the other

along with them in the boat, just as He was;
and other boats were with Him.
And there arose a fierce gale of wind, and
the waves were breaking over the boat so
