The Gambia: Advantages and Disadvantages of Youthful Populations.

Advantages

  • There are lots of potential workers in the future.
  • Provides a large and cheap workforce.
  • Provides a growing market for manufactured products.
  • Provides a large tax base for the country.

Disadvantages

  • Young children need healthcare - for example, immunisations. This is expensive for a country to provide.
  • Young people nedd to be educated - providing schools and teachers are expensive. Resources for lessons are difficult to access, and costly to buy.
  • It puts a strain on food supplies.
  • In the future, more children will reach child bearing age, putting more pressure on the health care service.

Evaluation

Although there are more disadvantages then advantages, there are some solutions.
