This is a SWOT test for Abortion. this is a general overview of the subject rather than a test set on one theorist. i am studying OCR religious studies- religious ethics course just so you guys know. :D

SWOT test for Abortion

Strengths

  • can prevent a child being born who would have suffered from disease or a severe disability
  • protects a mothers mental health and well being
  • when a baby is concieved out of a sexual assault it prevents further mental and physical harm to the mother or the child
  • stops any unwanted children being born into unhappiness such as poverty
  • helps social services as there would be less children put into care
  • it is applicable to the situation- what is best for you and your situation?
  • right to choice
  • avoids deaths from complications of miscarriages

Weaknesses

  • used as a birth control
  • is there equal consideration of both the father and mother's choices?
  • too easily given out?
  • the cultural acceptance means it is used for the wrong reasons
  • is it not damaging to mental and physical health?
  • can it cause harm?
  • expensive-the UK spent £90 million on abortion in the year 2009-2010
  • does the foetus become an agent at conception or birth?

Opportunities

  • helps people get over horrific crimes
  • a saftey blanket
  • gives people a choice

Threats

  • used for financial gain by private companies
  • can cause mental anguish and stress to the mother and other family members
  • there could be excessisve legal battles about the right of a parent/grandparent
  • does the foetus become an agent at birth or conception
