- People convicted of drug offences have their future prospects massively hampered
- a legal, controlled market would restrict cannabis to adults
- prohibition of cannabis is extremely expensive to enforce
- it is fundamental to our society that adults have the opportunity to be intelligent enough to make decisions for themselves
- cannabis isn't addictive.

- cannabis still has dangers
- legalisation could make cannabis socially acceptable and so encourage use
- tax payers don't want their money spent on treating hopeless drug addicts
- most people aren't fully aware of the dangers of taking cannabis
