- dont allow the researcher to get inside the participant's head- doesnt allow the full picture of the cause due to the structure- low in validity
- researcher imposition- low in validity
- inflexibility- cant collect additional data
- response rate- can be low and unrelated- practical issue
- lying, forgetting and 'right' answering- affect the results and affects the idea of the cause- affecting validity
