Natural Law: Helpful method of moral decison making?

Advantages

  • Clear guidelines
  • Aims at supreme happiness
  • Flexibility in the secondary precepts
  • Recognises the importance of motive

Disadvantages

  • Too legalistic and inflexible
  • Presumes a common human nature
  • Unfair to homosexuals
  • Out of date

Evaluation

It is understandable why Natural Law can be seen to be outdated and inflexible. It is far more straight-forward than other ethical theories, however this can have its downsides. Natural Law is too strict and excludes certain people.
