Men and women are equal in Christianity A02

Advantages

  • In Galatians 3:28 it says ‘there is no longer male nor female: for all of you are one in Christ Jesus’
  • God is neither male nor female
  • Jesus preached to both sexes
  • Reuther believed just embodied the prophetic tradition of the Hebrew Scriptures and helped all who were oppressed

Disadvantages

  • Women are still not allowed to be ordained today
  • Eve was seen as the sinner
  • Mary the mother of Jesus is a role model to be obedient and passive
  • Jesus and god were presented as men, making men superior
  • Aristotle and Augustine agreed women were misbegotten males

Evaluation

I would argue that men and women aren’t equal in Christianity because there are many examples within the bible of male superiority. However, it can be argued that in the modern day men and women are becoming more equal because they are starting to be ordained, such as Libby lane
