Hitler vs Saddam

Similarities

  • They both used violence to come to power. This limited the opposition because people were scared of the consequences if they did oppose.
  • Both used propaganda to gain power. The newspapers talked good about Saddam just like in Nazi Germany where  Hitler looked good in the newspaper too, but behind closed doors they were both evil men.
  • Saddam and Hitler both used secret spies to make sure that no one spoke against them.
  • They both encouraged people to tell on each other  if anything bad was said about them.
  • They both encouraged the previous leaders in a forcing manner to give up their positions.
  • Both these leaders (Saddam and Hitler) were anti-communist.
  • Both these men got arrested and while in prison came up with  "great" political ideas.

Differences

  • Saddam had relations with the previous leader which helped him rise to power a lot easier, whereas, Hitler on the other hand had no relations in the governments which made it slightly difficult for him.
  • Saddam would manipulate the people that opposed him and make them confess to their "wrong" doings, whereas with Hitler anyone said to be against him would be punished.
  • Saddam had support of the Americans in this case because just like the Americans the Baath party was also anti-communist. The Germans didn't have the support of the Americans, in fact the Americans were against the Germans.
  • Hitler's party found it more difficult to gain reputation but the Baath party didn't struggle as much.
  • In order to limit opposition the Nazis would go around disrupting other party's rallies where as the Baath's just resorted to violence.
  • Saddam was part of an assassination attack in order to help him get into power, which had failed. Hitler didn't try an assassination but he disrupted an important meeting that got him arrested.

Overall comparison

The two men were very much alike in many ways and in a way used very similar techniques to come to power. Both these men came to power by force and both had the same, but different ways of dealing with any opposition.
