Advantages
- Can be very price competitive in the right location and reduces fossil fuel reliance
- No CO2 emissions
- Sustainable with water re-injected to extend life of wells and solves problems of disposing of saline groundwater
- Can work continually (day+night) and not affected by changing weather

Disadvantages
- Requires suitable geology
- Danger of volcanic eruptions and earthquakes
- Can trigger subsidence which triggers earthquakes
- Only viable for around 20-30 years
- Water can contain toxic elements. The water is corrosive and salts maybe precipitate out and block pipes
