Fighting Disease - Vacination

Advantages

  • Vaccination can help limit the spread of deadly infections which history can back up i.e. measles outbreak and small pox.
  • Big outbreaks (epidemics) can be quickly prevented by immunising a large amount of the population quickly (restricting the disease to only the un-vaccinated).
  • Vaccination is free and comparing something free to your life (big advantage).
  • Adverse effects are incredibly rare.

Disadvantages

  • Vaccines aren't 100% effective (once vaccinated, it doesn't mean you can't get the illness).
  • You can sometimes have an adverse effect such as swelling and flu like symptoms and in severe cases fever or seizures.
  • Your body can sometimes mimic all the symptoms of the lines making you feel unwell (periods of illness vary depending on person).
  • Vaccinations cost the government more than a billion pound a year.

Evaluation

Overall, vaccination is important because it can limit the spread of deadly diseases such as polio, measles, mumps and rubella. Considering both the advantages and disadvantages, even though the cost of vaccination is considerably expensive for the government, they are worth it because they can save lives and even irradiate illnesses such as smallpox which no longer occurs!
