Evaluate advertising in paper + magazines as a method of external recruitment.

Advantages

  • targeting - target a specific geographical location - helpful if job requires knowledge of local area eg sales position which requires frequent local travel
  • flexibility - size/placement of add = budget
  • user access - ad can be read virtually any time making it highly convenient for user since online recruitment ads require candidate to have access to computers

Disadvantages

  • fail to target correct group - fail to attract younger readers in the 18-24 demographic
  • cost - ad in newspaper costs more than placing same ad on internet website
  • readership - no. people reading newspapers has dropped significantly + ∴ the right person for the job may not see ad

Evaluation

most common way of externally advertising vacancy. advertising can contain: location of job, how much job pays, qualifications needed, job involves + how to go about applying
