Target Audience

My target audience is primarily focused on victims who fall under honour crimes, particularly females who are quite young, around teenage years, as this is the demographic that fall under the typical victim. In 2019-2020, 74 FGM cases were reported to the police however less than half ended up being reported. I also want to target younger females as the younger generation are known to be an adapting one as many people in the younger generation are more accepting of people’s choices; with this, the younger generation make choices that could fall under their parents idea of ‘bad’ and could bring shame upon their family. I aim at this demographic as my campaign could help them and inform them about HBA and how to get away from it. This could help bring down the cases of honour-killings as victims are shown a way to get away from their troubles. The method of creating an Instagram account and posters will help me with this as younger audiences often have a social media account in addition to my posters being seen by different people from different schools.

Justification of my Campaign

I have decided to go forth with this campaign as I have reason to believe that this is a heavily underreported crime. This crime links to social norms as many societies in the United Kingdom also believe that this is okay due to ethnic norms. The UK is built up of various societies however many of these societies believe crimes such as FBA is okay due to the way things were back home. This crime needs to be spoken on more often and I aim to do that by using social media. Many victims such as Qandeel Baloch, Shafilea Ahmed, Banaz Mahmod etc. have had no right to have had their lives taken away from them. These victims were aiming to live their life however they were pulled back from their family. A primary example is Banaz Mahmood, a 20-year-old Turkish woman. At the age of 17, Banaz was forced into an arranged marriage with a 30-year-old man from Qaladiza. The 30-year-old man was said to be abusive and ***** Banaz on multiple occasions and so Banaz moved back into her fathers home; her father felt dishonoured by this action and did not like the idea of Banaz back at her home. Banaz later fell in love with a family friend by the name of Rahmat Suleimani, a man of Iranian Kurdish origin. Banaz was found kissing Rahmat at a station and her father felt entirely dishonoured and betrayed and so he and her uncle decided to murder her, stuff her in a suitcase and bury her underneath a freezer. Rahmat felt as though he could not go on and so he hanged himself later on. Victims like this have no right to be treated like this, for a woman like Banaz, she was ***** by her husband and found a man she actually liked and was instead murdered for this. 2 deaths came from this case and could have been avoided if it were not for honour.

Methods and Materials

My first method will have to be the use of social media. Social media is vital as I have to ensure I use it the right way to attract the audience and the right people. Most of the younger generation have access towards the internet and have a social media account. This will help me gain a respectable amount of followers as I will try to create posts where everyone can sympathise and empathise. However, some people may choose to skip my posts and others may not even have a social media account whatsoever, resulting in a lack of connection between the campaign and the audience although a small minority of people do not have social media. Social media will help me in the best way as my posts can be saved and shared whilst I gain likes and followers. With the gain of likes and followers, I will be able to do some collaborations with public figures. With this, I can gain even more recognition towards my campaign which would help me increase my funding and I can aim towards bigger things.
