Causes of The 1917 Russian Revolution- Russification

Causes

  • Russification

Effects

  • Russification was a policy to force Russian culture on other areas of the Russian Empire. There were over a hundred different cultures in the Russian Empire with revolts because they wanted to be independent from Russia
  • The Tsar made all education, law courts and regional governments use Russian for documents and meetings
  • They didn't allow any national culture in the countries.
  • The people of these countries were already resentful of the Russian control and now had their culture taken away from them
  • The centralised government meant that these countries weren't proportionally  represented in a largely Russian government.

Overall summary

This policy encouraged unrest in the Russian Empire, however it was not influential enough to be seen as cause for the Russian Revolution.
