Advantages

  • Mori & Arai found the same results with a convincing confederate
  • Lab experiment meaning that we can easily replicate the study due to ecological validity

Disadvantages

  • Asch's study is a classic, 'a child of it's time'
  • we know very little about the effects of larger groups on conformity levels
  • independent behaviour, meaning that they didn't conform most of the time
  • lab study meaning that it is artificial
  • we conform at different levels depending on where we live for example; eastern people are collectivist however western people are individualists

Evaluation

In conclusion, although Asch found an important research study for conformity it isn't reliable meaning that it can be used however it is unsure into it's accuracy
