  • Witchcraft among the Azanda
    • Believe when misfortune occurs someone is practicing witchcraft against them
      • The injured party makes an accusation against the suspected witch and the matter is resolved by consulting the oracle
        • A potion, benge, is given to chicken
          • If the chicken dies, the sufferer can go and publicly demand the witchcraft to stop
            • This is usually enough to end the problem, they regard witchcraft as a psychic power. The witch is believed to do being harm unintended and unconscious
    • it is a closed system that cannot be overturned by the evidence
