- It features amazing deeds
- It starts in the middle of the story (known by the Latin phrase 'in media res')
- 'in media res' is Latin for 'in the middle of the thing'.
- It has monsters, magic and gods
- It is set in lots of different places
- It has certain literary features (e.g. epithets and similes) within it.
