  • What is the difference between Primaries and the Caucus system (10)
    • Primaries- more states use these; intra party election to select nominee for presidency; open vs closed; New Hampshire first
    • Caucus- state based meetings of Democrat or republic party activists only a few states tend to be smaller, rural or less populated
    • Importance/ analysis- Iowa first in the nation can set media narrative attention concept of 'the big mo', primaries (ordinary votes) rather than party bosses as previously
    • Test of candidates (stamina, fund raising, media, message) can help outsider campaigns pick up support, tends to be more ideological wings of each party that dominates, some argue caucuses less significant, need to find/use evidence from previous campaigns
