- Configural vs Featural Processing
- Configual processing: the processing of spatial layout among facial features which are common to all human faces
- holistic processing: faces are perceived as a whole, rather than based on individual facial features
- Featural Ppocessing: faces are processed on a basis of facial features rather than looking at the face as a whole
- holistic processing: faces are perceived as a whole, rather than based on individual facial features
- Configual processing: the processing of spatial layout among facial features which are common to all human faces
- Major Phenomena in face recognition
- Inversion effect: easier to recogniise a face when upright than upside down, no difference between inverted / upright objects but it effects face regogniton
- Other race effect: better at recognising faces of our own race than other races
- Own race face processing relays more on configural into where as other race face processing depends more on featural info
- Composite effect: :P's are asked to identitfy the top half of the composite face composed of two different people
- Difficult to do as when two parts of different faces are put together this produces new facial gestalt
- Configural vs Featural Processing
