  • Vascular Shunting
    • Vasodilation
      • Increasing blood flow into capillaries
    • Vasoconstriction
      • Reducing flow of blood capillaries by action of sympathetic nerves
      • Arterioles, Sphincters - circular muscle, Contraction, Reduced diameter, Reduced blood flow/supply, smoth muscle, sympathetic nervous system, stimluation by impulses
    • This occurs through a narrowing of certain arteries
    • Redirection of blood around the body to the cells and muscles and tissues that need it most
    • Increase in blood supply:
      • Skeletal muscles, Heart, Skin
    • Decrease in blood supply:
      • Liver, Kidneys, Digestive organs
    • Blood Supply stays the same: Brain
