  • The Nature of God
    • ways to describe God
      • benevolent= all loving
        • sacrificial love: "for God so loved the world that he gave his only son"
        • "if you declare 'Jesus is the Lord' you will be saved"
      • just
        • "God is fair and just he corrects the misdirected"
      • omnipotent= all powerful
        • "the almighty one"
        • Genesis: "I am the Lord maker of all things"
        • resurrection: "Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the father
    • evil and suffering
      • examples
        • natural evil e.g. natural disasters

        • suffering: parable of the sheep and goats teaches to help those suffering

      • original sin: adam and eve ate the foribidden fruit which resulted in human suffering as punishment

    • creation
      • Genesis 1: God created the world in 6 days and rested on the 7th
      • role of word and spirit:1In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2He was with God in the beginning. 3Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.
      • Genesis 2: God creates Adam and Eve.
        • Adam was made from "the dust of the ground" when God breathed life into him
        • Eve was created out of one of Adams ribs
        • they lived in the Garden of Eden and were given the task of looking after the world
    • afterlife
      • resurrection: the Christian belief that Jesus rose from the dead
        • eternal life: Jesus' death is an example of being able to overcome death and have eternal life if they follow Jesus
        • Jesus said: "I am the resurrection and the life. he who believes in me will live though he dies"
      • judgement
        • some Christians believe you're judged when you die: "all who die in Gods grace are assured eternal salavation"
        • some Christians believe in a day of judgement: God has set a day in which he purposes to judge the inhabited Earth"
      • heaven and hell
        • Roman Catholics believe in purgatory: "they undergo purification so they achieve the holiness necessary for the joy of heaven"
        • God gave humans free will. Hell is a place for those who reject God
