      • Truman - comes up with the Truman Doctrine which says that communism is a threat and had to be contained (need to stop it from spreading)
      • Eisenhower - comes up with the Domino theory whicg says that if one country falls to communism, others around them will also fall
      • The USA go to the UN to seek approval to get involved in Korea. The Russians had been isolated from the UN because they supported the communists. The UN agreed to send troops to Korea with the USA making up the vast majority of the forces.
    • Consequence
      • North and south Korea suffer heavy losses.
      • Tension between comm. and cap. have increased
      • Growing fear of nuclear weapons being used.
      • Nothing was achieved - n. stayed communist, s. stayed capitalist
      • Strategies used to eliminate communists were ineffective
      • The war cost thousands of dollars
