      • Many people are depressed because of events such as marriage breakdown. This is called reactive depression and the model works well
      • Elllis idea of irrational beliefs
      • Ellis's idea of irrational beliefs can be used in cognitive behavioural therapy which it is powerful and effective. This suggests it is right about how depression is caused
      • It does not explain the types of depression such as major depression that do not have a trigger
