        • functionalism is positive +simplistic, ignores dark side e.g child abuse, domestic abuse.

    • divorce has been made easier and cheaper to access over the years, could be why 40% of marriages in england and wales end in divorce
    • some couples rush to get a divorce today as it is easier than staying in relationship, divorce has become acceptable option in society today
      • decline in secularization, changing social norms
    • The new right view on divorce
      • nuclear family is best & this threatens its existence.
      • an increase in lone-parent families, not good for society
