- Overall, the WC are not very religious, MC are more religious and UC exhibit religious behaviours, although the level of belief is less clear.
- Why?
- MARTIN- the lack of religiosity among the WC is due to Marxist political influences in the community and at work, as well as a lack of time and the feeling that God has not helped them
- DAVIE- The MC are either strongly religious or strongly secular. When religious, their economic wealth allows them to travel to suit their faith- possibly deepening their faith
- TROELTSCH- Upper classes were most often associated with the official state linked Church- Like the Church of England.
- Members of sects in the early 20th century were relatively deprived. Sects acted as protest and support groups for the poor.
- WEBER- Marginalisation
- GLOCK AND STARK- Relative deprivation
